The throat of the station is viewed from the footbridge of Tonbridge West Yard, which includes the ''power box''
of 1961/1962 on the right. By this time, the Tonbridge Panel controlled only as far down as Wadhurst on the
Hastings line. Control of the main line had passed to the Ashford Panel in September 1993. David Glasspool

The ''high-level'' entrance at Tonbridge remains as rebuilt by the Southern Railway during 1935. Study of period
photographs suggests that the original SER building is in fact underneath this tiled shell. The hipped slated roof
is hidden by the upper brown edging, which replaced a balustrade. David Glasspool
