Hoo Junction Training Exercise
7th March 1993: By David Morgan
7th March 1993

Whilst initial efforts were directed towards rescuing the car occupants, a real fire caused by the smoke canisters
took hold in the second coach, allowing the local fire brigade to demonstrate their ability to deal with an unplanned
part of the exercise. Note the emergency services' film crew and observers recording the event for the subsequent
debriefing and future training purposes. © David Morgan

At Hoo Junction Yard entrance by Shornmead Level Crossing, we see the bus that had supposedly caused the
accident, with the fire brigade engaged in rescuing injured passengers from the top deck! The adjacent main
line remained open as normal throughout the exercise, and observant passengers on Charing Cross – Gillingham
services must have wondered what was going on. © David Morgan
