Stone Crossing

The area immediately around the level crossing is now swamped with palisade fencing. The crossing has formally been abolished for public road vehicles, but the traditional timber gates were still evident behind. © David Glasspool

Looking towards Greenhithe, the former signal box can be seen alongside a well-weathered timber crossing gate. At this time, renewed proposals had come to light on constructing a footbridge at the station to replace the crossing (would the station simply become "Stone"?). Planned for 2017, the cost is estimated to be £2,000,000, with such a large figure suggesting the footbridge will be equipped with lifts. © David Glasspool

Class 465 No. 465185 is seen speeding through non-stop on a Gillingham to Charing Cross via Woolwich and Lewisham service. The bridge in the background is a long diversionary route between platforms when the crossing is not manned. © David Glasspool
