Class 47

Brush Type 4

June 1996

We saw No. 47555 earlier on, when it wore ''InterCity'' Executive livery at Hoo Junction in 1992. We see our old friend again, but this time 4½-years later at Dollands Moor, wearing the smart two-tone grey livery of ''Railfreight Distribution''. The locomotive did not have long ahead of it, and it was scrapped by new owner EWS at Wigan, in October 1999. © Edward Clarkson

Class 47 No. 47840 is seen beginning its run-a-round of its Mk 2 air-conditioned stock at Ramsgate in 1996, it having formed the 1O99 Cross Country working from Birmingham. © Andre Kent

Class 47 No. 47840 has now run round its train and is seen fronting the 1M79 Ramsgate to Birmingham at the former location in 1996, not long before the stock began appearing in Virgin Trains livery. Happily, No. 47840 is still in existence today. © Andre Kent
