Eurostar drops Ebbsfleet International stop
On 3rd September 2020, Eurostar announced that their services would no longer make calls at Ebbsfleet nor Ashford International stations until 2022 at the earliest. International trains had earlier ceased calling at these stations in March 2020 at the start of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, although no decisions had by that stage been taken on how long services would be suspended. By the end of the year, so severe were restrictions on travel throughout Europe, domestic and cross-border, that just a single Eurostar service was running between London and Paris each day of the week in either direction. Amsterdam was met with the same service frequency, with Lille, Brussels, and Rotterdam being served en-route.

At the southern end of the layout, the tracks are seen converging, before rounding the curve and passing under the A2 trunk road to reach Southfleet Junction. Artist impressions suggest that the surrounding area will become host to office blocks and commercial development. © David Glasspool
