Elmers End

This glazed structure appeared on the "up" side in 1974, to replace the 1882 SER building which was gutted by fire. The roofed lattice footbridge and "up" side canopy stanchions are the last structural remnants of SER origin. © David Glasspool

The sorry-looking area on the left in this southward view from the road bridge, immediately beyond the footbridge and separated from the "down" platform by palisade fencing, is the former site of the "old house" of 1864. Lattice footbridges, such as that pictured, are fast becoming an endangered species, as lifts at stations become a requirement. © David Glasspool

The yellow railings on the right of this northward view mark the start of the former "down" bay platform. A trailing crossover remained between the running lines, just north of the road bridge. © David Glasspool
