Faversham Shed

SE&CR: ''17''; SR: ''FAV''; BR: ''73E''

The following photographs were taken by Nick Skinner. In 2008, Nick was permitted by infrastructure owner Network Rail to enter the derelict depot buildings, which have stood disused since the 1970s. They were last used for rolling stock storage.

This internal view of the redundant engine shed, looking east, shows the still extant locomotive inspection pits, and the chairs of the removed rails. The crème brickwork of LC&DR origin can be seen emerging through the whitewash wall finish. © Nick Skinner

An external view, but still facing in the eastward direction, reveals the site of the now demolished engine shed section of 1860 origin. Of note, however, is the section of concrete flooring of this building, still in evidence on the left. © Nick Skinner

On the left, a second interior view this time shows the redundant wagon repair shop, which retains not only an inspection pit, but also rails and timber doors. Wooden trussing continues to support the slate-tiled roof, which is showing obvious signs of decay. The photograph on the right, however, shows the good quality of the slate tiles, which suggests that they are in fact quite recent. Both © Nick Skinner
