Herne Bay

The "down" side canopy is of Herne Bay & Faversham Railway origin. The LC&DR canopy succumbed with the Station Master's house, but a remaining piece of its valance can still be seen in this view, overlapping the end of the older structure. The plain steel canopy of the SR is in evidence on the island. © David Glasspool

An eastward view from the road bridge reveals a trailing crossover in the foreground, and also shows thatthe line which once served the southern side of the island, is still in situ. Originally, this formed a loop, but at the eastern end of the layout, the connection with the running lines has been removed, and the track exists as an elongated, disused siding. On the left is the prominent pitched roof of the goods shed, which now acts in the car sales capacity. © David Glasspool

A westward view is of considerable interest, because it includes three different generations of platform canopy, two of which are represented on the "down" side alone. The railings on the island platform surround a redundant subway entrance, which once led directly to the street below, avoiding the route via the station building. © David Glasspool
