A Lewisham-bound view shows the recently doubled track of the "Flydown". The works included the incorporation of a staircase in the embankment. © David Glasspool
A view towards New Cross shows the new bridge span, installed during the upgrading works, on the left. The longer bridge span dates from September 1992, when it was installed during lengthening of the below island platform to accommodate twelve-vehicle trains. © David Glasspool
Another view towards New Cross, this time from the road bridge, shows the staggered Tanners Hill Junction, where both tracks from the "Flydown" make connections with the "up" fast line. The facing crossover between "up" and "down" fast lines can also be seen. © David Glasspool
The station footbridge of 1976 origin was retained, but the laying of a second track on the "Flydown" required the shifting of one of the supports nearer the "up" fast line. The bridge support with the revised position is that which is seen emerging out of the embankment's side slope. © David Glasspool
