Ashford
Yet more works buildings on this extensive site are seen on the same date as the above picture.
The line in the foreground is that to Hastings, which passes over the bleak Romney marshes and
through Appledore. David Glasspool
A view looking back towards the station shows at least one of the former Ashford Works' buildings
still in railway use, initially retained by British Rail and passed onto subsequent companies after
privatisation. This particular shed now houses maintenance vehicles, and it is noticeable that it has
received a new roof. Once again, the line in the foreground is that running from the station to Hastings
via Appledore. David Glasspool
General Station Review
Originally opened: 1st December 1842
Level of originality: The SER station was totally swept away during the Kent Coast Electrification. The second station was latter rebuilt in connection with the Channel Tunnel project. However, the SER's works remain whole, restored and now part of an industrial estate. Therefore, originality of station is zero, but conversely the works is very good.
General Condition: Former locomotive works in poor condition - buildings decaying rapidly.
