Dartford

The bridge abutment on the far right marks the position of the River Darent as it passes under the railway. Prior to 1972, the platforms did not encroach on this bridge. However, rebuilding involved making new platforms which extended eastwards, beyond the river, which required bridge widening. In the background, to the left, are the council buildings which now occupy the former goods yard site. Class 465 Nos. 465196 and 465173 are forming Cannon Street and Charing Cross services respectively. © David Glasspool

An eastward view from Dartford Junction shows the triple-track approach to the station and Class 66 No. 66125 hauling the Cliffe to Crawley sea-dredged aggregate freight. Since 1970, the centre track has been signalled for reversible running. Previously, there were two ''down'' and one ''up'' track. © David Glasspool

No. 66125 veers onto the Dartford Loop Line via Sidcup. The train will eventually turn onto the Nunhead line at Lewisham, and continue onwards to Factory Junction (Wandsworth Road), where the maze of lines provides access to Clapham Junction. © David Glasspool
