North Downs Steam Railway
The terminus! A very basic platform was erected here, as can be seen, and trains served the
opposite side of it in this picture, with the two lines in the foreground being yet more sidings. From
memory I can picture two parallel lines on the opposite side of the platform in this view, but the
tanker wagon in the background only confirms one. This is a 1992 view. Mike Glasspool
Looking a little worse for wear in 1989, but on the road to recovery, is the organisation's second
steam locomotive, No. 13 ''North Downs''. The boiler and wheels had been removed and renovated
when based at Chatham, and restoration work on the locomotive was completed here at Dartford
in 1992. Mike Glasspool
Returning to 1992, this scene gives a good impression of how extensive the sidings were, in relation
to the size of the whole site. Prominent on the left is one of the ex-Metropolitan carriages, whilst an
array of diesel shunters fills the sidings. Interesting to note is the miniature-gauge track, which was
in operation during one of the gala weekends. Mike Glasspool
