Ramsgate

In the winter evening sunshine, a Class 423 is seen residing alongside Ramsgate Depot on Sunday 8th February 2004. The renewal of the depot roof has resulted in the abandoning of the skylight windows which at one time were placed in two horizontal rows, one above the other, for the length of the building. © David Glasspool

This view is of the lines exiting the station in the Minster direction. The triangular sections of roof on the right-hand side are those of the original engine shed, and two thirds of the building survive, having been converted for EMU storage after its official closure to steam in December 1960. © David Glasspool

The route heading in the Margate direction becomes double-track almost immediately. What is not observable in this view is the sheer drop either side of the running lines here, as they are carried out of the station upon a viaduct. This commences shortly after the buffer stops in the background. © David Glasspool

A view towards Margate from platform 1 shows the remaining length of the through siding on the right, with two 4 Vep units residing in it. visit to the station on a Sunday makes for particularly interesting viewing as one can see a great deal of the allocated stock on show. Ramsgate is a major depot for the servicing and storage of main line EMU stock, whereas additional facilities at Slade Green, Gillingham and Grove Park cater for suburban EMU units on the South Eastern Division. © David Glasspool
