Upon the chalk ridge, looking towards Rochester, the platform extension works are seen gathering pace on a Saturday afternoon. During the previous weekend, new track had been laid for the lengthened ''up'' loop, in preparation for the extended platform. The background is rich in history, with Rochester Castle and Cathedral rising high, both buildings having Norman origins. In the Medway, on the left, is also an ex-Russian submarine. © David Glasspool

A new signal gantry is in evidence in this ground-level view, which was due to be commissioned in connection with the new platform/loop extension. The timber barricade had been erected at the northern end of the island platform, whilst extension works were ongoing. © David Glasspool
