Tonbridge: InterCity Cross Country 1986

The huge goods shed can be seen on the left of this eastward view, depicting an InterCity Cross Country service arriving from Dover Western Docks. Most of the goods yard had by this time become the customary car park and the goods shed itself had been demolished by 1990. Parked in the electrified siding on the right are a pair of de-icing units formed from the driving vehicles of ex-4 SUB formations. © Roger Goodrum

1991

The travelling Post Office is seen stabled at platform 2, a Class 47 at the helm up the far end. This was at a time when mail was still sorted whilst the train was on the move. This practice started being phased out on the introduction of Class 325 electric multiple units in 1995, which were tailor-made for conveyance of mail. © Bob Fairman
