The fine twin spans are viewed from the ends of platforms 3 and 4 on 31st December 2004, certainly

worthy of a main terminus station. It is just a shame that the station's London counterpart did not

retain its roof, instead being built over. David Glasspool

The engine shed closed in 1964, but the buildings themselves were not demolished until mid-1966.

The site was then taken over by a parcels depot, and palisade fencing separates this from the tracks

(as can be seen). In the background, on the right of this 31st December 2004 view are the pitched roofs

of what is thought to be the EMU shed. The land in the foreground has been tarmac for a number of

years, but it would appear that track laying is about to ensue. David Glasspool

4 Vep No. 3479 is seen trundling out of the terminus on 31st December 2004. By this time the type

were largely confined to the shorter local workings with their 4 Cig stablemates, the Class 375s

having assumed most London to Brighton workings. David Glasspool
