Brighton
Class 450 No. 450097 is seen at exactly 11:25 on 31st December 2004, having trundled in with
the Basingstoke to Brighton service. This was formerly diagrammed for Class 159 operation, but
this subsequently went to Class 170 in 2000, then to Class 450. David Glasspool
With the re-opening of Snow Hill Tunnel in May 1988, services from Brighton were able to travel
beyond Blackfriars in the City and on to Bedfordshire, producing a vital cross-London railway
link. For this, Network SouthEast introduced four-vehicle Class 319 EMUs and from the outset
the project was branded ''Thameslink''. Two such units, Nos. 319437 and 319220 are seen stabled
underneath the trainshed roof, forming the front portions of eight-car long trains. David Glasspool
The lines to Hove curve sharply to the right - indeed, the platform begins curving even before it
leaves the trainshed. The most prominent building this side of the road bridge is an extension of
the former engine shed. It used to accommodate three lines fed by a large turntable, this itself
being fed by the coal / ash lines. 4 Vep No. 3807 is stabled in the platform. David Glasspool
