Dover Western Docks

1988

A splendid view from the footbridge shows both the trainshed and offices to good effect. In the background is the bricked up exit which once gave the double-track access to the end of the pier. This was of use in the days of locomotive haulage, when empty stock would be dragged out the rear of the station to make way for another service. The units in view are 4 CEP Nos. 1619 and 1513. © John Horton

July 1988

A formation of two 4 CEP units, led by No. 1617, is preparing to depart Dover Western Docks on the 13:00 service to London Victoria, via Dover Priory. By this time, the trainshed roof struts had tastefully been painted into Network SouthEast colours. The brick wall in the background, behind the unit, blocks up the gap through which the double-track used to exit. © John Horton

Nearing the end: at the time of this photograph, there was just one train per hour. The trainshed framework still looked resplendent in Network SouthEast colours, but the track had been used as a dumping ground for litter. © Roger Goodrum
