A Class 465 cruises over the multitude of tracks, heading towards Northfleet. Class 14 diesel shunter No. 14029 can be seen stabled in the background, complete with a short engineering formation. The Swindon-built machine had been in the vicinity for several months, being used for shunting machinery used in the erection of the overhead wires. © David Glasspool

This view of the station approaches reveals some of the 2,500 parking spaces available on the left, whilst electric substations are apparent in the foreground. The road entrance to the station is in fact on the opposite side of the complex viewed here. Ashford's car parking tariff of £11.50 per day will be matched at Ebbsfleet. © David Glasspool

A south eastern view once again shows No. 14029 and its engineering formation, with the North Kent Line flying over the international tracks in the background. Housing development, part of the Ebbsfleet and Thames Gateway regeneration programme, is in evidence on the far left. © David Glasspool
