A northward view shows the Thames Tunnels which, on 16th August 2005, witnessed a fire outbreak. This resulted in two deaths, and the blaze began upon one of the engineering diesel shunters. Compare this view with that on the first page: there is now no longer ''Kent Portal Yard''. © David Glasspool

The façade has now been fully glazed, as have the lift shafts. Completion of the station came on 12th September 2006, although it was not until January of the following year that 25,000 volts were put through the overhead wires. Landscaping of terrain out of view, to the right, continues. © David Glasspool

A southward view presents a deserted scene on Easter Monday, in addition to a sea of masts and wires. The western car parks are at the same height as the ''high-level'' station building. Immediately behind the station structure is a bridge which straddles the tracks, linking road networks on both sides of the running lines. © David Glasspool

19th July 2007

An eastward view across the redundant chalk pit of the former Bevan Cement Works shows the now completed Church Path Pit sidings. In the foreground can just be seen, within the vegetation, stacked up track from the former British Rail connection with Northfleet Cement Works. © David Glasspool
