This view shows the roof over the terminal platforms to have been removed, although the northern wall and some of the columns remained standing. Temporary conventional canopies were erected on the platforms to provide cover from the elements, and a series of new lampposts were brought into use. © David Glasspool

In the background is the tower of Guy's Hospital, the external refurbishment of which was nearing completion. The sad charred remains of the trainshed columns and brackets are seen still standing upon platform Nos. 15/16. © David Glasspool

A close-up of one of the remaining brackets on platform Nos. 15/16 shows an ornate flower pattern. We can see the remains of the two other brackets which used to sprout from this column, these having been cut off. © David Glasspool

Given that the platforms here were to be completely rebuilt, the new lighting seen in this view was, like the canopies, also temporary. The southern wall along St Thomas Street, which formerly supported the trainshed, had already gone by the time of this view. © David Glasspool
