Margate West

New Signals

By John Horton

New signals were installed from Ramsgate to Faversham in 2010, all fibre optic, single or double lenses only.

Margate platform 3 ''up'' starter (GE51) had a new signal post installed directly behind the previous signal - no signal head when the below photograph was taken, but it was ¾ of the way there.

On the ''down'' Chatham line, after the starter signal at the Ramsgate end of platform 1, was the 4-aspect automatic signal in Dane Valley (GE222). Now, a new signal post and head has been installed in the middle of this section to speed up traffic. The new signal is 20 yards before the old Margate East Station.
