Margate West
New Signals
By John Horton
New signals were
installed from Ramsgate to Faversham in 2010, all fibre optic, single or double lenses
only.
Margate platform 3 ''up'' starter (GE51) had a new signal post installed
directly behind the previous signal - no signal head when the below photograph
was taken, but
it was ¾ of the way there.
On the ''down'' Chatham line, after the starter signal at the Ramsgate end of platform 1, was the 4-aspect automatic signal in Dane Valley (GE222). Now, a new signal post and head has been installed in the middle of this section to speed up traffic. The new signal is 20 yards before the old Margate East Station.

Signal GE51, the ''up'' starter at the end of platform 3, is seen in front of its replacement. We earlier saw GE51 in the May 1979 view on the first page of the Margate West section. © John Horton
