Into the Sand: 22nd December 1984
By John Horton
4 CEP unit No. 1537 was derailed at the Margate end of the layout on 22nd December 1984. Lack of communication between Driver and Shunter resulted in the rear cab smashing through the stop blocks, burying the leading bogie in 3-foot of earth and sand! No injuries occurred and the unit was split up and re-railed.

One of 4 CEP unit No. 1537's motor coaches is seen buried up to its axles in the sand drag. It demolished the buffer stops after a shunting move out of No. 29 road went wrong. © John Horton
