Class 47

Brush Type 4

1991

A grubby No. 47206 is seen at Town Yard, Dover, once a site comprising fifteen parallel-running sidings flanking the approaches to Dover Western Docks from the Folkestone direction. The two-tone SpeedLink Distribution livery suited the Class 47 diesels well. Happily, No. 47206 is still with us in the form of Class 57 No. 57605, now fronting the ''Night Riviera'' Sleepers between Paddington and Penzance. Note in the background, on the extreme right, is the signal box of Archcliffe Junction. © Wayne Walsh

Pairing with No. 47206 at Dover Town Yard was No. 47293, also wearing the attractive SpeedLink Distribution livery. In the background, to the right, can be seen those wagons which traversed the English Channel on the train ferry, before the advent of the Chunnel. The locomotive was eventually sold for scrap in April 2007, and cut up in the following month. © Wayne Walsh
