London Bridge Rebuilding Works

Thameslink Programme

10th March 2012

On the left is the original bridge carrying the Charing Cross lines into London Bridge, whilst on the right is the new viaduct. Taking centre stage is the partially-complete framework of Borough Market; part of the original structure had to be dismantled to clear the way for the new viaduct. On the latter's completion, reassembly of that part of Borough Market south of the original railway lines began. © David Glasspool

Sad scenes at London Bridge: a ''crash deck'' is seen surrounding the trainshed, as demolition of this historic structure commences. Scaffolding can also be seen emerging around the top of the tower of Guy's Hospital - this was to receive external refurbishment as part of the general redevelopment of the area. © David Glasspool

An eastward view shows, on the right, the new bus station which opened on part of the site once occupied by ''New London Bridge House''. In the background, the framework of the 1970s station was still lingering on. Behind the barricade on the left is the site where the viaduct will eventually be extended to join up with the new through lines. © David Glasspool

This north westerly view, which includes the original viaduct spanning the road, shows the end of the new structure on the left. This was to be extended after demolition of the remaining offices sandwiched in-between the railway and new concourse. © David Glasspool
