''Electrostar'' Nos. 375922 and No. 375601 worked empty stock via the North Kent Line. The rear of the eight-vehicle formation is seen embarking on the connecting spur with the ''Chatham'' main line. © David Glasspool

We are steaming through Strood on 25th February 2006, behind a visitor to the line: ex-LMS 5MT No. 45407 'Lancashire Fusilier''. It is hauling the ''Granville Express'' Kent circular tour, which was made extra special by travelling via the North Kent Line. Remedial work is in evidence on the island platform shelter. © David Glasspool

The connection with the ''Chatham'' main line is just seen branching off sharply to the left, whilst the Medway Valley Line to Maidstone and Paddock Wood continues straight on under the viaduct. The overgrown area behind the ''45'' MPH sign was once home to a pair of 320-foot-long electrified sidings and Strood Junction signal box. © David Glasspool
